koalas: our dreamtime keepers
Set in the entrance of the Central Park Zoo, this exhibition brings visitors into the sleepy, sacred world of koalas, blending ancient Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories with modern climate urgency. “Koalas: Our Dreamtime Keepers” asks us to slow down and listen to the wisdom of the trees.
Activities
Visitors begin beneath a shimmering video canopy, where Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories of koalas unfold in glowing visuals. Guests are invited to curl up on soft, leaf-shaped loungers, just as koalas rest for most of the day, conserving energy and embracing calmness. Around them, walk-in eucalyptus trees evoke curiosity: guests can hug their furry trunks or peek in to learn about habitat loss, resilience, and hope through immersive media depicting The Creation, The Burning, and The Reforestation. Along the path, playful koala pouch hammocks, thoughtful reader rails, and Aboriginal dot-art landscapes draw visitors into the koala’s home, highlighting both conservation and comfort.
